The Reviewer of the Month for November 2022
We proudly announce that the Reviewer of the Month Award for November 2022 goes to David Pestaña, MD, PhD.
As a means to promote the hard work and dedication invested “behind the scenes” to improve scientific publications, each month, BJBMS Editors select a reviewer who performed the best amongst all the reviewers in the current month. Selection is based on the quality, thoroughness, and timeliness of the review. It is a difficult task for our Editors, as they try not to underestimate the time and efforts of each of the reviewers who reviewed for the BJBMS in the current month.
David Pestaña, MD, PhD, head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Surgical Critical Care at Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal, has a particular research interest in the role of extracorporeal CO2 removal (ECCO2R) in respiratory failure. His team showed that a protocol including ECCO2R, prone position and inhaled nitric oxide can prevent the need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in severe acute respiratory distress syndrome.
We asked Dr. Pestaña about the importance and other aspects of the peer-review process in general:
In this world full of fake news and uncontrolled information we need to rely on thorough publications. Good science requires to be published, and peer review is of extreme importance as all reports need to be challenged in order to eliminate dubious results. A good reviewer not only helps as a filter for these drafts but also should help to improve the presentation of data.
BJBMS congratulates David Pestaña, MD, PhD, and wishes him many awards and recognitions in the future.
